scenes from Vienna/Otto Wagner

A couple of images from the cafe across from the Karlsplatz station designed by Otto Wagner in Vienna. I am pretty sure he designed this as well, but not positive...
This fantastic avocado green used to be my favorite color and is still close to my heart. I am always excited when I see refridgerators in this color. Or cars! I am fortunate that such simple and random things make me happy. It makes everyday a discovery.
Happy weekend!

washed out colors/harsh sun

Venturing out to get coffee yesterday I had to make a U-turn to shoot these colors in the harsh sun. As everyone is bundling up and pulling out sweaters, I have to admit I am seasonally confused. I know it is from all the jumping from northern Europe to southern Europe repeatedly and the fact that I was working all summer long. I find myself scratching my head thinking "where did summer go?" Maybe that is why the colors here are so appealing and the way the harsh sun makes them almost disappear. They are suggestions of color. Now if I could just sit in this sun and let my mind wander untethered for about an hour...

roaming/

I forgot how much I love these mosaic walls at LAX. I was roaming my image files last night looking for an image (which I have yet to find) and ran across these. I have a special fondness for the yellow/grey combo. Can you say perfect?

villa necchi/

Aren't you in love with this girl? I am. I have been admiring her since I shot this at Villa Necchi in Milan. There is something that is simultaneously self conscious and unconscious in her pose. And the way her mouth is a little bit open...is taking in a huge gulp of life, or calling out someone's name? I just love her. The ideas she conjures in my head are usually diametrically opposed to each other. She makes me think. And wonder.

the beauty of decay/

During some location scouting in Western Pennsylvania, I found a historic building that used to be a schoolhouse. It had since been taken over by a tech company, but the upper floors were not in use and still had remnants of it's past life. This is my favorite shot. This is where the blackboard used to hang. I love this pattern of colors on the wall.

color/my morning walk

Sometimes mother nature knows best about color. I stumbled on this on my morning walk. This shade of green almost seems unreal, yet there it was, just off my path.

color/ray kappe

An other from Ray Kappe's home. I also love the royal blue with the avocado carpet.

color/ray kappe

I have been working with a color consultant on a job recently and it has reawakened my fascination with color - namely the combining of interesting color combinations. So many of the houses I have shot for Handcrafted Modern have a unique color sense, but two in particular come to mind. Ray Kappe's home in Pacific Palisades is one of them (more on the other home later in the week). Although it is not in the final version of my book, I wanted to share some of the images here. I love the royal blue with the wood.
