hay hohos/ sharon, georgia
Am I the only person that calls these hay Hohos? I have been looking through all my images of the South lately and ran across this one which I shot right outside of Sharon, GA. I have always called these hay Hohos because they are like Hostess Hoho's but (obviouously) out of hay. I was never allowed to eat Hostess anything when I was growing up and all the other kids were, so maybe that is where the fascination comes from. Who knows. But now that Hostess is bankrupt it makes me yearn for a Hostess factory tour of the US. I guess I already started with the Memphis factory. See it in this post on Wonder (Bread).

nostalgia/the sounds of summer
Another image from my photographic past that I shot in Sharon, GA. I ran across this yesterday and it just made me crave the sound of cicadas and the feel of summer heat on my skin. San Francisco has been a bit chilly lately (typical July/August weather). But the heat is secondary to my craving for the sounds of summer. I feel like I haven't heard a cricket chirp in a year. Just thinking of those sounds makes me a bit wistful.
Have a great weekend friends! Hope you experience a bit of summer wherever you happen to be.

the american south/new orleans and kudzu
Here is another image that shows what I mean by the vegetation and the structures in the South becoming one...I guess to rather detrimental effect for this particular house. The guy in the upper left, Francis, had the lovely job of pulling all this kudzu off this house. I think they were going to just rip the house down after that...brutal job.

the american south/graceland
I thought I would continue with more images of the South this week.
Something about it being summer just makes me want to go on a road trip. But since I am in "Staycation" mode this year until the book comes out, I am traveling through my memories of road trips past. This one was actually taken on the tour of Graceland in Memphis, TN. This little shooting range (if you can call it that) was in a tiny room at the back of the house next to Elvis' office. I love the colors in this, though, and the fact that it was SO small and strange makes me like it, and Elvis, more. I wonder what all the hooks in the ceiling were for.
