I was running through images from Handcrafted Modern for a new project I am working on and I stopped at this one. It is a sculpture that used to sit in Jens Risom's dining room window amongst the plants. Jens has since moved from this house, and I cannot recall where he placed it in his new home. But I have just been staring at this sculpture...wow. So good. Jens has such an amazing eye for art.

Heading back to California today after a lovely weekend spent in The Springs, NY. It was a little bit of R&R and a little bit of work. This is one of the locations I shot at...nice place for a portrait, no?

The last leg of this amazing trip is today. I am jumping on a plane from Paris to San Francisco. In other words I am heading home. Looking forward to a little rest before I jump into all the editing I have to do.

Another travel day today but I have to say, it is so hard to leave Antwerp! I really love it here. But promises have been made for my return so I feel sure I will be back in the colder months. On to Paris and my last scheduled shoot of the trip!

As many of you know, yesterday was a travel day for me. Not a long journey - I flew from Helsinki to Copenhagen and happily the plane wasn't full and it was easy going. I know it is such a cliche to take pictures out the windows of planes, especially for photographers...you see it all the time. But it is because it is so very pretty! So the first two images today are just before landing. I woke up (I sleep on every flight now. Planes taking off is like a sedative to me.) and saw this out the window. I am a sucker for cloud shadows on earth. The second two are from takeoff in Helsinki. I was having a little dorky fun...no app required!
But now I am happily installed with a lovely host in a Copenhagen suburb about 15 minutes away from Finn Juhl's house. I am finally washing some clothes (hallelujah!) had a home cooked meal and am enjoying the quiet - a still kind of quiet that you only get in houses. There is a whole back story to this particular house that I will share the details of at some point, but this shoot has been in the works since 2007! travel day/let the adventure begin

I met a dear friend at Trouble Coffee in San Francisco the other day and this sat before my eyes. Yep. That is what this whole adventure is going to be. I am not really one to use the word "epic" but this book and trip is probably the biggest thing I have ever done in my life. The word fits I daresay.
By the time you read this I will be on a plane to Paris. And then the adventure begins! I continue shooting the European book. Eleven countries in about 9 weeks.
For those of you that have asked, this book is a continuation of the project that turned into Handcrafted Modern. Mid twentieth century architects and designers homes and studios. My dream list and quite a few new ones. I will be tweeting ( @lwillphoto ) and keeping up with the blog as best I can from the road. A Kickstarter campaign will be up soon as well so get ready to pre-buy your book and support my project while I am on the road. Here we go!

Just a quickie post today as I am jumping on a plane for California. Only to turn around and jump in a car to go for a shoot in the Redwoods this long weekend. Should be good!
