editing/bruno mathsson

I am in the thick of editing the new book now. This apparently means that my blog posts will be more sporadic than daily. There is just no way to do it all! At this second, I am editing Bruno Mathsson and I can hear myself cursing under my breath. His house is so damn amazing that I am barely editing anything out!  At this rate there will be a year of Bruno Mathsson outtakes. haha!
Here is a teaser. I'll do a couple of juicy posts next week.
Have a great weekend friends!

note from vienna/Loebmeyr

Today was amazing my friends! I went to Loebmeyr's workshops in Vienna and was given an in depth and inspiring tour! I am going to include them in the craftsman project. This first shot is the iron working room for chandelier making. I love the huge anvil in the foreground. The second is just from their packing room. Beautiful quality of light in there. And the last is from the archives. From 1899! Loebmeyr designed and made the apothecary jars for the Vatican. How amazing is that?!? Their archives are so engrossing I don't know how I will edit down to what we will shoot.

note from milano/salone del mobile 2012

At this point in my travels (it will be one month tomorrow), I am feeling like I have a mountain of editing to do. If not Everest, a modest Mt. Kilimanjaro. I finally edited through all my favorites from the Salone a couple of weeks ago. So here it goes...
The first three are from the Studio Nendo show I loved so much at Palazzo Visconti. As you can see it was soooo well done.
And the next couple were from up/market. That first of the door I was just in love with the door knob...how good is that? And the second is work by Simone Berti, and Italian artist and sculptor. And the last two by a couple of favorite designers of mine - Lindsey Adelman's candlesticks and chandelier at the Wallpaper show and Paul Loebach's vertical chandelier at the Carwan Gallery.

lindsey adelman/studio visit

Imagine walking into a studio and seeing this...an elaborate satellite of lights being built in front of you. This is what I saw when I walked into Lindsey Adelman's studio in NY a couple of weeks ago. It is funny, but until then, I just never really thought about how they figured out the configurations. I just loved her work. But this is like a huge intricate puzzle. Just fascinating to see!
Her studio is a bit like a mad scientists laboratoire (in the best way) and the mood she has created there feels wonderfully collaborative and open. I like her work more because of it (if that is possible). And that huge new piece they are working on? Well, hell...it is just so damn gorgeous. I would love to see it installed and just lie on the floor underneath it for a long time. Maybe doze off and then wake up and see it with sleepy eyes, a little blurry... More images from her studio follow and one from the Sight Unseen Pop Up from last may.
See more of her work on her website and at Roll & Hill. Pretty, pretty stuff...

lindsey adelman/studio visit

During my trip to NY a couple of weeks ago, I finally made it by Lindsey Adelman's studio. Lindsey designs some of the most delicious lighting. I'll show you more of the studio tomorrow, so you'll see her gorgeous lights then (or if you are impatient like me, click on her name and go to her website). Today, I just chose my three favorite shots from my visit. I love seeing people working and then looking at what they were working on. And it feels like a gift from the color gods when the colors are working like this...her chair color completely working with the colors in the design she was working on? You can't plan that, but I do love when it happens!
