I just noticed that some of the work I shot during the Milan Furniture Fair in April is in the July/August issue of Dwell magazine. I had the pleasure of photographing Rossana Orlandi. I love her....she is amazing. This is my favorite of the lot. It captures her spirit I think...

I got a crush on this chair when I was shooting at the Carl Aubock Werkstatte in Vienna. The only way I know this is that when I was editing through my images the other day I ran across about 15 images of this same chair. But isn't she cute? It's that tilt of her head. I feel like she is winking at me.

rest/villa necchi

I find myself thinking about this couch in the sunroom at Villa Necchi a lot lately. I've had the flu - it is going on 5 days now - and to be perfectly honest, I am absolutely awful at being sick. Just the worst! I am never completely convinced I am actually sick enough to not work. So I keep trying to...
I imagine that if I was here, on this couch, I would be inclined to just stop. It seems like the perfect place to do that and maybe listen to the wind rustle in the trees. And rest.

A bit more of Fort Ross today. I know I don't have to explain why it is so good! Isn't it obvious from these images? I am one of those people that is a bit obsessed with "house" museums. (I know...what a revelation...) In my experience, there are different levels of house museum, or I guess history museum, in this case. The best of them are transporting and that is what some of the rooms at Fort Ross do for me. I cannot stop my brain from imagining what life would have been like when this fort was bustling. It remains relatively remote, which helps. The tool rooms are my favorites, though. Just beautiful.

I returned to one of my very favorite places on my little road trip this past Sunday. Fort Ross, the old Russian Fort near Sea Ranch. I love the way the legs of the chairs turn out. They are invariably happy, don't you think? No idea what is going on with the teeth on the underside of the table but I am fascinated. I thought it was expandable, but can find no evidence where you would put another leaf in, so I don't think that is the case. does anyone know?

pt. arena/

Some days, you just have to jump in the car and drive.  Yesterday that is exactly what I did and I ended up at Pt. Arena Lighthouse. One of my favorite things about the Northern California coast is the play of light and fog and the fleeting beauty that occurs in brief bursts. You have to just stop and watch. An elegant, subtle light show for all to see but that so many miss.

heath tile factory/

The new Heath Tile Factory in San Francisco, is getting close to opening. Yesterday the new neon sign was installed. I'm looking forward to shooting this space in the coming weeks. I've been lucky enough to see it transform from an industrial dry cleaning plant to this glorious factory/retail space! The collaboration between Heath and Commune Design certainly continues to flourish.
The second shot is where the kilns are going to go. Seriously... look at that light! So gorgeous! I love that Heath is carrying on Edith Heath's tradition of a natural light factory, just like the one in Sausalito. I am sure it will be a joy to work and create in.

This was the last shot of my day yesterday at Janet Hankinson's. Sometimes I really have to pinch myself...an amazing day. More from this shoot soon...

I was meeting with a friend yesterday and swapping travel stories and invariably that means me handing over my phone at the beginning of the pictures I shot on my time in Europe. He ran across this one that I shot in Torino and it just made me start thinking about all the iron work in Italy. I mean, look at this light! This was just a courtyard I ducked into at some point, nothing particulary special about it from the outside. But wow...

Just a head's up that some of the images I have been shooting of June Schwarcz's home and work are featured in a story on her in the June/July issue of American Craft Magazine. You can see the story if you click here as well. The story was written by Deborah Bishop and focuses mainly on her new work. Of course I love June's work, but her curatorial eye for the objects in her home is equally interesting to me. Here are just a couple of goodies that did not make it in the story.

Scene from a barn raising. It was pretty inspiring watching this structure go up. Jesse Schlesinger from my NYT People Watching post and here is at the top of the ladder and was pivotal in the whole project. I hope to share more on this soon.
