I ran across this images yesterday and I just liked it. Something about the wrinkles on the canvas bag...

jb blunk residency/studio

The great thing about being able to return to a place repeatedly to shoot, like I have been at the JB Blunk Residency, is that the place starts to seep into your bones. JB's house has become a part of me now. And because of what I do, I notice all the tiny changes - they patched the roof or changed the configuration of the closet - you get the idea.
The other day in the studio, I noticed this little fan that I never noticed before. From the looks of it it isn't new. But I am rather enamored with this shot now. No clue why except that this fan seems like a little secret creature that I just discovered. It is wise somehow.

blunk residency/tara tucker

My favorite portrait of Tara Tucker that I shot at the JB Blunk Residency last week and one of her works in progress featuring the famous poodle of Pt. Reyes (yes, I know...who knew?!?). Isn't the intricacy and detail in her drawings amazing? Plus I have a lifelong love of owls!  In fact, I have a couple of owls that live in the trees behind my house and as I write this I can hear one of them hooing! Isn't that perfect!?! Easily one of my favorite sounds...
Tara has an upcoming show at Rena Bransten in SF opening on the 15th. Check it out if you can!

jb blunk residency/tara tucker

As mentioned, I shot artist Tara Tucker yesterday who is currently in residence at the JB Blunk Residency in Inverness. I love Tara's work for it's intricacies and whimsy. Talking to her about why she painted each animal ended up being an eduction in the wildlife of the area (and not so wild...the famous poodle of Pt. Reyes?). As I was shooting in the bedroom, where most of her pieces on canvas are at the moment, I got a bit taken with the play of these shafts of light with her work. I am familiar with this light from having shot here so many times, but they were calling out to me yesterday.
More images from the residency shoot on Monday. Have a fantastic weekend friends! Let's hope this glorious weather holds for a bit longer. It is really nirvana in SF lately!

I found myself lucky enough to stay at the J.B. Blunk house again a couple of weeks ago. This is where I woke up....absolutely no complaints. I went to sleep counting the shooting stars.

jb blunk residency/oliver halsman rosenberg

A detail from Oliver Halsman Rosenberg's studio at the Blunk Residency. It is funny, I have been shooting the artists in residence for a year now and Oliver has really moved in to the space more than anyone else to date. I was shooting there for a couple hours before I noticed that there were all these little people looking at me from the shelves. I love how he has nestled his work in and among all of JB's ephemera and tools.

jb blunk residency/oliver halsman rosenberg

Yesterday I had the pleasure of heading back to the jb blunk residency - this time to shoot Oliver Halsman Rosenberg, who is the current artist in residence. Kind of a perfect day...sun when I needed it, a misty moodiness when I was finishing up and ladybugs hatching all over the house. This is one of my favorite portraits from the day.

Spent a rainy Sunday morning up at the jb blunk residency with current artist in residence, Benjamin Britton. After a really quick edit of the portraits I shot, I really think this is my favorite thus far...

another from beatrice pediconi's time at the jb blunk residency. I find myself looking at this image and wanting to just sit in this chair for a really long time.

jb blunk residency/beatrice pediconi

Just getting ready for another Blunk open house this weekend. In all the craziness of the book launch and subsequent events I realized I never shared any of the images from the last artist, Beatrice Pediconi. She wanted a more informal portrait so I shot her getting ready for her open house in the studio. As I was documenting how the house changed I wandered into the bedroom and found what you see in the second shot. I could not have set up a more perfect monochromatic shot if I tried.

jb blunk/scrap chair

Another wonderful Open House this weekend at the JB Blunk Residency, this time for photographer Beatrice Pediconi. More pics of the studio tomorrow. Last week I was up at the residency shooting the Scrap Chair for an upcoming museum catalog and I ended up doing a couple of unorthodox shots that I really like. This is one of them. And as I was shooting, I noticed something I had never noticed before on the chair....JB's "signature".  Love it.

More from the Blunk Residency. Underneath the glove is one of Jenna's stone pieces. I find beauty in how tidy she keeps her tools.
