Modern Originals/ the almost print set

I thought I would share another print set. I ended up not offering this one for the Kickstarter but I really love it. Maybe I'll set up an online shop for my prints...who knows.

PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!/and thank you!

ok...I can breathe easy, right? My Kickstarter is over and I exceeded my goal which is beyond amazing!! Now I get a rest?
Oh wait...I have a book to make. Right...
Haha...no complaints here! This is what I love to do, but I am going to disappear for a bit and work on finishing this book up. I have a bit more to do to get first drafts in to my publisher.
Have a beautiful weekend my friends and I will be back as soon as I can!

kickstarter/last hours!

Just a few more hours to pledge your support for my project of photographing the homes of mid twentieth century architects and designers in Europe on Kickstarter! I have to say, I cannot wait for the clock to run out and I can breath a little sigh of relief. The support for my project has been so wonderful and now I just want to get down to work! I already have emails out to Germany, Sweden and I just found out about a couple more houses in Italy. The odds of these homes making it in the book are rather slim since my deadline is basically right now, but I have to shoot them! And you have all made that possible!
But today I keep working. I am editing the Aalto chapter. I confess I have been avoiding it. There are so many fantastic things I want to share and there is no way with the number of pages for each chapter. I can't seem to edit it down enough. Absolute torture...sweet blissful torture!

Kickstarter/24 hours left!

I am at a loss for words that my Kickstarter has made its goal and then some at this point. Wow! Thanks to everyone who has pledged their support and endured my emails. Fundraising is a new thing for me and it has been a trial by fire but all wonderful lessons I am happy to have in my arsenal!
You still have time to pre buy your book and/or some prints should you want to. Even though I am over my goal every cent goes right back into my work of documenting the homes of these wonderful mid century architects and designers. It looks like there is just one more set of 16x20" prints left too. Someone should grab that! My prints go back to regular price with the end of this Kickstarter. They won't ever be priced this low again.
Thanks for all your support you beautiful people!

Kickstarter/ 2 days to go/$700 to raise

You know that your Kickstarter is close to over when they start counting down in hours...So here we are with 50 some odd hours to go.
I have not yet met my goal so if you want to pre buy your first edition, autographed copy, now is the time!
Come on...who is going to push me over the edge...

Kickstarter/$4000 to raise by Thursday!

I am in the home stretch my friends! Of the $41,000 I have to raise to finish my new book of European homes, I have $4000 left til the promised land! I am cautiously optimistic at this point! But because Kickstarter is "all or nothing", if I don't make it to my goal, all pledges go away and I am at square one with fundraising again. So I still have a bit to go.
PLEASE PLEDGE if you plan to do so! You can prebuy your book or if you want some beautiful limited edition prints you can pledge a little more. Just a heads up, the $500 for 2 16x20" limited edition prints is basically a 2 for one price (my 16x20" prints are usually $500 each. this price is exclusively for the Kickstarter).
I cannot wait to reach my goal and work full time on making this book as beautiful as i know it will be. Please help me get there with your pledge!
Thank you!!

taking a moment to be grateful/

Things have been a whirlwind lately. I am getting ready to send off 10 chapters of my book to my publisher.  It is incredible how much time goes into writing and re-writing, reading and re-reading, editing and re-editing to make things exactly how I want them. Plus the Kickstarter is plowing forward - only nine days to go and a little over $9000 to reach my goal. I am hopeful I will make it (but it ain't over til its over, so please pledge if you intend to).
But today I just wanted to let you all know how grateful I am that I get to do this work and share it with all of you. Your unwavering support, through comments on my blog, emails (such beautiful emails!!), and of course my Kickstarter campaign means so much to me. I am at a loss for words.
This week some really wonderful blog posts in support of my work have posted. Caitlin Flemming and I did a little Q&A for her wonderful blog Sacramento Street. And those lovely folks over at One Kings Lane featured my project and the Kickstarter as well. So a heartfelt thank you to all of you. I look forward to having the Kickstarter all wrapped up and working on my book full time again. Lots to do and I couldn't do it without all of you!  xxoo

european moderns/the blurry stuff

Yes...a blurry picture today but I really love it. When I started on my European adventure photographing all the homes of architects and designers, I wasn't sure how much I could/should share. It is always a little dance with the internet and images and I just wasn't so sure of the steps. So I started taking these blurry shots of the houses I was shooting. Like a teaser image. I am a bit disappointed I didn't do this for all the houses because I am loving the ones I did take. Like this one from Carlo Mollino's kitchen. I am not sure if I love it because I know what the focused version looks like or if it is actually a good image. I guess time will tell.

A special thanks to Remodelista for including my Kickstarter fundraising campaign in their Current Obsessions post yesterday. It is nice to be obsessed over...  ; )
Less than two weeks left for my Kickstarter and about $11,000 still to raise! Exciting times!
Thanks to everyone who has pledged so far, you are all amazing!

giacometti/the louisiana museum, copenhagen

I decided to stray for a moment yesterday. I just needed a little mental vacation. So I looked through my images from Copenhagen and rested on this one for along while. Giacometti. Goodness I love him so...

The Kickstarter is ongoing so please do pledge if you are excited about my new book, Handcrafted Modern Europe. And it looks like if you live in San Francisco, you will be able to get a proper sneak preview of the new book. I am planning a sneak preview slideshow! More details soon! March 7. Save the date!

writing/kickstarter...hmmm...

Well, goodness me my friends! Doing a Kickstarter campaign takes a lot of time! I've been back a week and have not written one word for my book since I have been home. Just a heck of a lot of emails (which is fun too).
I am so grateful for all the support thus far, but I still have a long way to go. So please check out the Kickstarter and support in whatever way you can - pledge, tell your friends, all of the above... you get the idea.
Me? I'll get back to writing tomorrow about this place...one of my favorite houses I have ever shot.

love and kickstarter/all items loaded

Well...one more of my beloved heart puddle for your Valentine's Day pleasure. I watched it swell with a bit of rain and then slowly fade during my time in Mendocino. When it wasn't there I would walk past where it would be and still see it in my mind and silently give it a wink.
Today I am just overwhelmed with the amazing support my Kickstarter has received so far. $11,000 in one week is so fantastic! Thank you so much to all my backers. But I still have a long way to go. So please check out my Kickstarter and if you love your copy of Handcrafted Modern, sign up to pre buy your copy of the next in the Handcrafted series - this one of all the European homes.
There is actually a wonderful little interview with me and little film on Handcrafted Modern on the new website All Items Loaded. I am loving this website. Enjoy it and Happy Valentine's Day! xxoo

daily life/back in SF

As many of you know I have been up in Mendocino (see the pics today from my morning walk there) working on writing the essays for my new book for the past few weeks. Well, yesterday I finally drove back over the Golden Gate Bridge and am back home in San Francisco. Frankly, it feels rather strange to be back. Life in Mendocino was basic but focused to one thing...writing my book. And there is a beauty in that simplicity. The second I walked in my door everyday life hit. My ignored overflowing email inbox could no longer be ignored for one thing...
Alas, there is still much to do, most importantly is my Kickstarter campaign to finish the book. I also have a few lectures coming up in early march where I will be sharing a sneak preview of my new book live and in person. (One on march 1 in Nor cal and the other on march 9 in so cal). But for now please check out the Kickstarter and if you loved Handcrafted Modern, I need you to pre buy your copy of Handcrafted Modern Europe. It is going to be a beautiful book.

Kickstarter launched/prebuy my new book!

One of my favorite images of the Aalto house in Helsinki today to mark the launch of my Kickstarter campaign! As many of you know, I have been working away on my new book of architects and designers homes in Europe for the past year. Well, I've gotten as far as I can and I need a bit of help to finish.  So yesterday I officially launched a Kickstarter. If you have been following along and would like to learn more or would like to pre buy your book, please go here and help me get this book to publication. I would be very grateful for your help.
The nice guys over at The OEN also did a nice write up on the project and Kickstarter and I gave them a bit of sneak preview of the Aalto house, so check that out while you are at it.
Have a lovely weekend friends and please help me spread the word of this Kickstarter. I need all your help!  ; )

Bowerbirds Kickstarter/treat yourself for 2013

As a lot of you know, music is really important to my life. This is doubly true when I am on the road, like I was for most of the 2012. During my first trip to Europe this spring, my sonic traveling companions were the band the Bowerbirds. To say I am a fan is a bit of an understatement. Some music just speaks to your heart to the point that it just becomes a part of you. When I left for my first trip in April, their album, The Clearing, had just come out. I honestly think I listened to that single album almost exclusively for 6 weeks straight. I started following them on Twitter as they were traveling around on tour at the same time. I thought about how lucky they were to have people to travel with since in some ways it felt like I was "on tour" alone. But their music made me not so alone, you know? When I found out they had a Kickstarter campaign up to help fund their next album and building a solar studio for them to record it in, I felt I had to share it with you. $20 for music that changes your life is such a tiny price to pay. So treat yourself and support their music. It is the perfect way to start this amazing lucky 2013!
