handcrafted modern/outtakes/zeisel

Another workshop shot - this one at Eva Zeisel's country house. I was really surprised to find a full woodshop at her studio. It conjured up visions of Eva with a jigsaw and made me see her as more of a badass. Of course she was 101 when I was there photographing her home, but still...total badass. The bagged up wood pieces were from a new piece of furniture she was working on, I believe.

  1. Interesting, to think of a badass centenarian with a jigsaw and 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood. A playful image, but one might be forgiven for wondering: just how steady is the line she makes at that age, with something that can cut through bones like butter?

Still, wouldn’t it be terrible to live in a country if, when you were finally too old to pass your vision test at the DMV, they came to your home and took away all your power tools for good measure? I’m glad we’re not there yet, and that the impulse to make art keeps rousing itself to defy time and our bodies.
